Memorial Day. The day we honor the memory of every hero that purchased our freedom and liberty with the supreme and selfless sacrifice of their very lives.

Today we celebrate the cherished memory of the American Patriots to whom we owe everything.  Their courageous contribution to our country cannot be measured in the tearful speeches of politicians, or the heartfelt tributes on social media. They can be measured only in the frozen footprints trailing through the bloodsoaked snowdrifts of valley forge. They’re measured in the miasma of blood and black powder mingling in the damp air at Yorktown. They’re measured in the solemn silence surrounding the smoke-filled fields of Gettysburg. They’re measured in the sound of the gentle waves lapping against the sunken hull of the USS Arizona. They’re measured in the tears of families searching for names at the Vietnam Memorial Wall or walking the seemingly endless rows of white stones at Arlington.  Today we honor their sacrifice. Today we remember their courage and fortitude. Today we celebrate our Liberty and freedom, both of which were purchased with the blood of these heroic patriots who gave up everything; who went above and beyond the call of duty for the promise of America.  In the immortal words of Katherine Lee Bates from the third stanza of America the Beautiful:

“Oh beautiful, for heroes proved

In liberating strife

Who more than self their country loved,

And mercy more than life!”

May God bless and watch over all of our fallen heroes; Gone but not Forgotten.
